The Challenge
We're looking for an Traffic Survey Engineering Technician to join our Kinston Resident Engineer's office.
In this role, you will

- Support senior technicians and engineers in construction inspections, material samplings and testing, construction traffic controls, and surveying.
- Perform standardized tests, record data, and take measurements/calculations of pay quantities to ensure contractor compliance with contract, plans, specifications, and adequate project documentation.
What You Bring

- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
- Knowledge of standards/specifications and plan reading experience.
- Computer skills using laptops, iPad, and software applications.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
- Excellent communication skills to work with co-workers, contractors, and the public.
- Knowledge ability to use math skills such as basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Good eyesight to use testing equipment, read plan details, make accurate field measurements, and inspect roadway and structure components.
- Good skills in decision making and judgement. Operate state-owned vehicle. Safety toe shoes are needed for this position.
- Ability to safely perform manual tasks involving the use of bush axes, sledgehammers, and other tools.
- Strength to lift 50 pounds.

- You may be exposed to hazards including construction equipment, high traffic volumes, and heights over water or traffic.
- You will be working outside in a wide range of temperature and weather conditions.
- Safety toe shoes are required.
- You may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary.
- You will need to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
Education & Experience
-
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related discipline; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
