The Challenge
We are looking for an Assistant District Engineer to join our Division 2 District Permitting team.
In this role you will:

- Review driveway permits, site plans, subdivision plans, road addition and abandonments, and encroachments for adherence to NCDOT policies and procedures.
- Meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, and answer questions.
- Address complaints from the public by phone, in writing, and in person.
- Supervise subordinates and track task completions.
- Assist NCDOT as needed during emergencies and inclement weather.
- Assist our District Engineer.
What You Bring
-
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, Highway Maintenance, and Construction techniques related to transportation.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems.
- Strong knowledge of the use and operation of field and office engineering equipment.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and drafting software.
- Customer service skills resolving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to various stakeholder groups.
- Writing skills to produce memos, reports, and emails clearly conveying technical information and engineering concepts.
Notes

- You may need to perform duties in our New Bern and Washington District Offices.
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
